Some experiences stay with you not because of what you saw, but because of how it felt. Riding through the hills of Zakynthos as the island wakes up — or as the afternoon light settles over the landscape — is one of those experiences. This is not a lesson. This is a journey, and the destination is the sea.
Your pick-up is arranged directly from your hotel. The activity runs twice daily — a morning slot at 08:15 and a late afternoon slot at 17:35 — and operates on request, subject to availability. Both slots offer something different: the morning ride catches the island at its most still and fresh, while the late afternoon brings a quieter, warmer pace to the trail.
Your riding guide accompanies the group throughout — experienced, attentive, and there to make sure riders of all levels feel comfortable and confident from the first steps of the trail.
The Ride The route takes you through the hills above Kalamaki — through landscapes that most visitors to Zakynthos never see from the ground, let alone from the back of a horse. The trail is unhurried and the pace is set for the group. Take in the views, find your rhythm, and let the island unfold around you.
Kalamaki Beach The trail ends at the water. At Kalamaki beach, the horses walk into the sea — and so do you. Twenty to twenty-five minutes in the shallows, the Ionian stretching out ahead, the kind of moment that is very difficult to photograph and impossible to forget. Bring someone who will try anyway.
The return follows the same route back through the hills. Three hours from start to finish.
None at all. This activity is suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced riders. Your riding guide will assess the group at the start and make sure everyone feels comfortable and confident before setting off.
The activity is suitable for adults and children aged 15 and over. Children under 15 are not permitted for safety reasons.
Comfortable, long trousers are recommended to avoid chafing in the saddle. For footwear, bear in mind that the trail ride calls for something sturdy and closed-toe, while at Kalamaki Beach the horses walk into the sea and your feet will get wet. A practical tip worth considering — bringing a second pair of shoes that you don't mind getting wet can make the beach part of the experience a lot more comfortable. Bring a small backpack with plenty of water, sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. If you have a camera or phone you'd like to bring, make sure it is secured safely.

Horse riding requires a basic level of physical mobility — you need to be able to mount and dismount the horse and maintain balance in the saddle. If you have any concerns about your suitability for the activity, please contact us before booking.
In the event of severe weather that makes the activity unsafe, we will reschedule you on the next available slot at no extra cost, or offer a full refund if you are unable to join a future session.
