A short ferry crossing. A completely different island. A day you will not stop talking about.

Kefalonia is Zakynthos’s larger, wilder neighbour — and one of the most extraordinary islands in the entire Mediterranean. This full day private guided excursion takes you there and back, covering the very best the island has to offer at an unhurried pace, with a dedicated English-speaking guide by your side from the moment you step off the boat.

Your private minivan picks you up directly from your accommodation anywhere in Zakynthos. Pick-up time is arranged directly with our agency to ensure you make the 09:45 ferry from the north of the island. The crossing is short and scenic, and by the time you step off the boat on the other side, the day is just beginning.

Monastery of Agios Gerasimos Nestled at the foot of Mount Ainos, surrounded by vineyards and centuries of devotion, this is the most sacred place on Kefalonia — and one of those rare stops that stays with you long after you leave.

Drogarati Cave Deep beneath the surface of the island lies a cathedral of stone — a vast chamber of stalactites and stalagmites so acoustically perfect that it has hosted concerts underground. Step inside and let your eyes adjust.

Melissani Lake An underground lake, an open roof, and sunlight pouring onto water so blue it doesn’t look real. You explore it by rowing boat, gliding through chambers that the Ancient Greeks believed were home to the nymphs. They were not wrong to think so.

Lunch in Agia Efimia A stop in the charming seaside village of Agia Efimia — tavernas on the waterfront, fishing boats in the harbour, and the unhurried pace of a real Greek lunch. Lunch is at your own expense and entirely at your own taste.

Myrtos Beach Consistently ranked among the most beautiful beaches in Europe — white pebbles, sheer white cliffs and water of an extraordinary blue. What happens next depends on the sea.

If conditions allow, the minivan takes you down to the beach for a swim stop of forty-five minutes to an hour. This is the kind of water you remember. When you are ready, the road leads straight to Pessada and the 18:00 ferry home.

If the sea is unsettled, you stop at the clifftop viewpoint — the view alone is worth the journey — before continuing to Argostoli, the elegant capital of Kefalonia, for forty-five minutes to an hour to wander the waterfront, browse the shops, and find a coffee before the ferry.

At 18:00 the ferry departs from Pessada. By early evening you are back in Zakynthos, with the whole of Kefalonia behind you.

Agiou Dionysiou 12, Zakinthos, Greece

What is included in the price?

The excursion includes your English-speaking guide, door-to-door pick-up and drop-off anywhere in Zakynthos, the return ferry crossing, your private minivan throughout the day, and complimentary cold water on board. There are no hidden extras.

What is not included in the price?

Entrance fees for Drogarati Cave and Melissani Lake are not included and are paid directly on site. Lunch in Agia Efimia is at your own expense, as are drinks throughout the day. As a general rule, anything not explicitly described as included is not part of the price. Personal expenses such as souvenirs and purchases along the way are also at your own cost.

Is the excursion suitable for children?

Yes, children are welcome and will find plenty to fascinate them throughout the day — particularly the caves.

Is the excursion suitable for people with mobility issues?

Unfortunately this excursion is not suitable for guests with significant mobility issues. Both Drogarati Cave and Melissani Lake involve steps and uneven surfaces, and Myrtos Beach requires descending to the shore. If you are unsure whether the excursion is right for you, please contact us before booking.

What should we wear and bring?

Comfortable walking shoes are essential. Wear light clothing suited to a warm day outdoors and bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. If you plan to swim at Myrtos, bring your swimwear and a towel. The caves are noticeably cooler than outside — a light layer is a good idea. Cold water is provided on board but feel free to bring extra.

Is there a guided tour at each stop?

Yes — a dedicated English-speaking guide accompanies your group throughout the entire day, from the moment you arrive in Kefalonia to the moment you board the return ferry. At each stop your guide will provide context, history and insights to bring every experience to life.

How long is the excursion?

The ferry departs at 09:45 from the north of Zakynthos and the return ferry leaves Pessada at 18:00. It is a full day out — pick-up time is arranged directly with our agency based on your accommodation location.

Will we definitely swim at Myrtos?

Myrtos Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe but it is exposed to the open sea. If conditions allow, the minivan takes you down to the beach for a swim stop of forty-five minutes to an hour. If the sea is unsettled, you stop at the clifftop viewpoint before continuing to Argostoli for the same amount of time. Either way the day is full and memorable.

Is lunch included?

No. The lunch stop in Agia Efimia is at your own expense. The village has a good selection of tavernas on the waterfront where you can eat as much or as little as you like.

How many people are on the excursion?

The private minivan accommodates a maximum of six guests — just your group, nobody else, for the entire day.

Does the excursion include pick-up and drop-off?

Yes. Door-to-door pick-up and drop-off is included from your accommodation anywhere in Zakynthos — hotels, villas, Airbnbs and country houses are all covered.

What time does the excursion start?

The ferry departs at 09:45 from the north of the island. Pick-up time is arranged directly with our agency based on where your accommodation is located to ensure you make the ferry comfortably.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Private tours require a minimum of 48 hours notice to arrange everything properly. For last-minute requests, please contact one of our agents directly and we will do our best to accommodate you.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The itinerary is designed to be flexible. If the sea at Myrtos is unsettled, the stop becomes a clifftop viewpoint followed by a visit to Argostoli. In the event of severe weather affecting the ferry or the overall excursion, we will reschedule you on the next available date at no extra cost, or offer a full refund if you are unable to join a future trip.
